Miller allowed a hit and a walk. Joe Kelly, also competing for an rotation spot, wasn't nearly as successful.

The Marlins tagged him for eight hits and scored their only runs of the game in a four-run fourth.

Marlins' starter Jacob Turner went five innings, allowing seven hits and four earned runs.

Matt Carpenter hit a two-run double for St. Louis and Kelly singled in the go-ahead run in the sixth.
