(AP) -- The acting head of wrestling's world body has met with IOC President Jacques Rogge and told him the sport will work hard to retain Olympic status.

Nenad Lalovic, interim FILA president, says Rogge told him "everybody has to earn their place" among the eight sports seeking one vacancy on the program for the 2020 Games.

Lalovic told reporters after the 40-minute meeting that "I don't see any other way" but hard work to persuade the IOC to reverse last month's decision by the executive board to cut wrestling from the 2020 list.

The IOC called it "a productive meeting."

The IOC board will met in May to recommend a short list of sports for inclusion.

The final decision will be made by the IOC assembly in September.
