(AP) -- Alex Gordon hit a grand slam, James Shields pitched three scoreless innings and the Kansas City Royals beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-1 on Wednesday to remain unbeaten in spring training.

Gordon also doubled and scored two twice, and Alcides Escobar and Jeff Francoeur each drove in a run as Kansas City improved to 11-0-1 in the Cactus League.

The Royals played without Eric Hosmer, who was summoned by the U.S. to replace the injured Mark Teixeira in the World Baseball Classic.

Billy Butler started in his place at first base.

Trevor Cahill allowed a run on six hits in 2 2-3 innings for the Diamondbacks.

Former Royals first baseman Kila Ka'aihue drove in their only run with a single in the sixth inning.
