DECATUR, Ala.  - - The Truman softball team hit a combined .417 in two games on Saturday afternoon, picking up a pair of wins against future GLVC-foes Quincy (Ill.) and Maryville (Mo.). The Bulldogs moved to 4-0 on the season with the wins.

Like Friday’s opening day, the Bulldogs got on the board early, plating three in the bottom of the first against Quincy (0-3) to jump on top. Ally McReynolds came across on a wild pitch before Kristin Grossman launched the Bulldogs’ first home run of the season to score Liz Leath for a 3-0 lead. For the third straight game, Hannah Washburn earned the win in the circle by holding QU to just four hits and one run during her six innings of work, as Truman padded its 3-1 lead in the fifth with an RBI double by Cate Simon, an RBI triple by Andrea Klipsch and a fielding error leading to Klipsch crossing home.

Then, like Friday, a wild game ensued in the finale, as both Truman and Maryville found ways to score in each of their first three at-bats. The Bulldogs led 9-5 after three, added one in the fourth and then ended the game with a three-run sixth to run-rule the Saints. Klipsch led the way with three hits and three RBI, while five other Bulldogs added multi-hit games. After tossing the final inning of game one, Kirsten Krause picked up the game two win by pitching 4.1 innings of one-run ball. She struck out two and induced seven grounders to help keep the Saints from scoring in the late innings.

The Bulldogs moved to 4-0 for the first time since the 2004 season with Saturday’s victories and will look for a clean weekend sweep with games against Tiffin (Ohio) and Indianapolis on Sunday morning to close the UAH Charger Chillout.
