The St. Louis Blues, coming off a 109-point season, have signed general manager Doug Armstrong to a five-year contract extension.
(AP) --
Armstrong was the NHL general manager of the year last season as the Blues won their first Central Division title since 2000, tied for the second-best point total in the league and were the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference for the playoffs.

Blues was named GM in July 2010 after two seasons as vice president of player personnel. During his tenure, the Blues have added coach Ken Hitchcock and the goalie tandem of Brian Elliott and Jaroslav Halak, who won the Jennings Trophy after coming for a league-leading 15 shutouts.

The Blues are 87-60-22 in Armstrong's two seasons after 17 years with the Dallas Stars.
