A story about former Indian Hills Community College basketball player Michael Haynes will appear on ESPN next week.

Haynes, who played last season for the Warriors and was a key part of their national tournament team, was killed in a shooting in his hometown of Chicago in July.

The story on Haynes will air on Monday, Sept. 24, on the Outside the Lines program on ESPN2 at 1:30 p.m.

It is tentatively scheduled to be rebroadcast on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 8 a.m.

Also next week, ABC’s Nightline will reportedly air a show hosted by Diane Sawyer that looks at escalated gang violence in the same area neighborhoods where Haynes grew up.

According to news reports, Haynes was shot when he tried to break up a fight between neighborhood friends over a necklace.

He had a signed a letter-of-intent with Iona College in New York and was set to move there the next week.

Haynes averaged 6.9 points and 4.5 rebounds in his only season at Indian Hills, playing in 31 games.
