Truman soccer swept the MIAA Athlete of the Week awards on Tuesday afternoon, as women’s keeper Emily Bozdeck and men’s forward Andy Chapman were recognized by the league office for their play on the field last week.
Bozdeckwho won the award for the second time in her career, ran her consecutive shutout streak to 463 minutes this past weekend when she notched a pair of shutouts against Missouri Western and Northwest Missouri.
The junior stopped six total shots in the two matches and logged her fifth consecutive shutout dating back to the season-opener on Aug. 31.
She has a 0.33 goals-against average on the season and is the first Bulldog to win the conference award this season.
Chapman scored both of Truman’s goals in a 2-1 MIAA-opening road win at Upper Iowa last Friday (Sept. 14) to give the Bulldogs their third consecutive victory.
The senior put the Bulldogs ahead with less than three minutes to play in the first half, then, in the 59th minute, scored again with the game-winning goal.
It marked the third multi-goal match of his career, bringing his career goals total to 19. This is Chapman’s first MIAA athlete of the week award and first for the Bulldog men this season.
The Bulldog women, who debuted in the NSCAA top-25 coaches’ poll at No. 23 on Tuesday, travel to No. 25 Central Oklahoma on Friday and Northeastern (Okla.) State on Sunday.
The Truman men visit Lindenwood on Thursday night before closing the weekend at Southwest Baptist on Saturday.
