Truman senior volleyball player Megan Sharpe was named the MIAA Hitter of the Week for her performance during the Bulldogs’ first four matches of the 2012 season on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.

Sharpe who won the award for the first time since she was recognized on Nov. 1, 2010, during her sophomore season, averaged 4.21 kills and 1.21 blocks per set, while hitting .427 with just nine errors in 117 total swings.

She finished the weekend by averaging 5.14 points per set for the Bulldogs, as Truman posted a 3-1 mark at the Days Inn Bulldog Invitational.

A three-time AVCA All-American, Sharpe  opened the weekend with an eight-kill, zero-error (.533) performance in two sets against McKendree before hitting .429 with seven kills and six blocks against No. 7 Minnesota-Duluth in the nightcap.

Then, on Saturday (Sept. 1), Sharpe had a career day - twice - as she broke her previous career-high of 20 kills in the day's first match against Winona (Minn.) State.

In that match, she put away 22 kills with just four errors on 44 swings (.409), and added six digs, an ace and three blocks for 24.5 total points.

Then, in the tournament finale against Missouri-St. Louis, she nearly replicated her first match output to a point with an identical 22k-4e-44ta (.409) hitting line to go along with four digs, an ace and eight blocks for 27.0 total points.

With her 59 total kills last weekend, Sharpe (1,147 kills) jumped into Truman’s all-time top-ten in career kills, surpassing Kelsey Wackerman’s (2003-06) career mark of 1,128.

In addition, she leaped past Lisa Weber (2006-08, 376) with her 377th career block – good for sixth all-time in program history.

Sharpe’s award marked the fifth straight season that a Bulldog volleyball player received league accolades following the first weekend of action.

Truman returns to action at the Nebraska-Kearney Invitational this weekend, beginning with matches against St. Cloud (Minn.) State and Maryville (Mo.) on Friday, Sept. 7, before taking on Northern (S.D.) State and Minnesota State on Saturday, Sept. 8.
