(AP) -- The U.S. women's volleyball team defeated Brazil 3-1 on Monday at the Olympics in an early-round rematch of the Beijing Games final won by the Brazilians.

Destinee Hooker had 23 points and wing spiker Jordan Larson added 18 for the top-ranked Americans, who won 25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 25-21 to improve to 2-0 in pool play at Earls Court.

Sheilla Castro had 15 points for No. 2 Brazil, which was energized after a third-set victory but lost when Logan Tom's floater fell for match point in the fourth set.

Brazil has lost five straight international matches to the U.S. The teams are 21-21 in career play.

In earlier matches, China, South Korea and Russia all won.

American teenager Missy Franklin won the women's 100-meter backstroke at the London Olympics on Monday.

Franklin won the two-lap race in 58.33 seconds for her first Olympic gold and second medal after taking bronze in the 4x100 freestyle relay.

Emily Seebohm of Australia touched in 58.68 to take the silver medal and Aya Terakawa of Japan finished in 58.83 to take bronze.

Franklin swam little more than 10 minutes after taking the eighth and final qualifying spot in the 200 freestyle semifinals.

Venus and Serena Williams began a bid for their third Olympic doubles gold medal by beating Sorana Cirstea and Simona Halep of Romania 6-3, 6-2 Monday.

The victory on Court 2 at Wimbledon came hours after the sisters advanced in singles.

Yannick Agnel of France routed a stellar field by more than a second and a half to win the 200-meter freestyle at the London Olympics on Monday.

Having pushed France ahead of the United States in the anchor leg of the 4x100 free relay a day earlier, Agnel led from start to finish and clocked 1 minute, 43.14 seconds.

Park Tae-hwan of South Korea and Sun Yang of China shared silver in 1:44.93.

World champion Ryan Lochte of the United States finished fourth and world record holder Paul Biedermann of Germany was fifth.
