(AP) -- The St. Louis Cardinals have picked Texas A&M right-hander Michael Wacha with the 19th overall choice in the draft.
Baseball America ranked Wacha's changeup the best of this year's class to go with an above-average fastball.
The 6-foot-6, 200-pound Wacha was 9-1 with two shutouts and a 2.06 ERA as a college junior with 116 strikeouts in 113 1/3 innings.
St. Louis selected Florida State outfielder James Ramsey with the 23rd overall pick.
The Cardinals used the 36th pick overall to select Stanford third baseman Stephen Piscotty..
St. Louis took St. Mary's third baseman Patrick Wisdom with the 52nd pick.
The Redbirds final first round pick was Steve Bean a catcher from Rockwall High School in Texas.
Counting supplemental choices, the Cardinals have five first-round picks for the first time since 1991.
Two were compensation for Albert Pujols signing with the Angels.
