Joey Walls will advance to the finals of the 1500 meter run and Jennifer Zweifel picked up her fifth all-America honor with a sixth place finish in the long jump. Zweifel will compete on Friday in the triple jump.
Walls ran 4:04.19 to grab the final qualifying spot in Saturday’s national championship race in the 1500 meter run. Just five seconds separate the top 12 runners in the race with Mack McLain of Colorado Mines posting the fastest time of 3:58.35. The Bulldog senior ran a personal best 3:49.34 earlier this year in the 1500. The finals will be run at 6:45 p.m. (CDT) on Saturday.
Zweifel’s best jump was in round two as she leaped 19-04.75 to advance to the finals of the long jump. That mark would be her final total as she placed sixth in the event. Zweifel was one of four competitors from the MIAA to finish in the top six with Lincoln’s Nickeisha Beaumont winning the event with a mark of 20-04.25. Central Missouri’s tandem of Erin Alewine (third) and Lindsay Lettow (fifth) gave the conference a strong showing in the event.
