Carl Edwards still confused about penalty at Richmond

(AP) - Not even a meeting with NASCAR officials helped Carl Edwards understand why he was given a penalty at Richmond International Raceway.

In contrast, Tony Stewart knew exactly why he lost Saturday night's race.

Both drivers were less than pleased when they left Richmond, where late drama spiced up what had been yet another bland NASCAR race.

Two late cautions changed the outcome.

Edwards was black-flagged for jumping a restart, and the penalty took him out of race-winning contention.

He finished 10th and didn't get the explanation he wanted from NASCAR about the final restart.

Stewart saw his lead gobbled up by a late debris caution, and he didn't believe a yellow flag was needed.

He was then beat off pit road by Kyle Busch, and settled for second.
