Truman State Tennis falls to Washburn

In the final regular season matches of the season, the Washburn Ichabods and Lady Blues defeated the Truman Tennis teams by 5-0 scores.

The Bulldogs will begin play in the MIAA Postseason Tournament on Friday in Kansas City.
 
With the matches moved indoors due to weather, the teams played till one school had the clinching number of wins so not all matches on the courts were completed.
 
In the women’s match, the Lady Blues took the first two doubles matches by 8-3 scores and in the third match,

Casyn Buchman and Sophie O’Neill outlasted Truman’s Kelsey Porter and Jessica Gennuso 9-8 (7-4) to grab the third point.
 
Needing only two more to secure the win, Morgan Rainey defeated Ellen Russell in straight sets at number one and Whitley Zitsch handed Kim Birenbaum a 6-3, 6-1 defeat at number two.
 
The women finish the regular season 6-9 and 2-5 in the MIAA.
 
The second and third doubles matches in the men’s dual could have easily gone the Bulldogs way but in the end Jake Ohlhausen and Griffin Smith were defeated by a break 8-6 and Adam King and Mike Merchant fell 9-7 as the Ichabods swept the doubles to go up 3-0.
 
Eric McCollough lost 7-5, 6-4 at number one and Ohlhausen was downed 6-2, 6-2 at number two to give Washburn the win.
 
The Bulldog men drop to 5-7 overall 1-3 in the conference and will face Emporia State in the 4/5 match-up in the conference tournament on Friday.
