Truman State baseball splits with Fort Hays State

Pete Jurich had a big night but Ryan Busboom has a bigger night as the Bulldogs and Tigers split the first two games of their four-game weekend series.

Truman took the opener 4-3 while Fort Hays claimed the nightcap 11-3. The two teams will square off on Saturday to wrap up the series.
 
Jurich was 4-of-7 with two doubles and his first home run of the season however Busboom drove in eight runs on two home runs and had three runs scored for the Tigers.

Logan Siegler went the distance and Pete Jurich hit a three-run homer in the fourth as the Bulldogs extended their winning streak to five.

Jurich belted his first home run of the season in the fourth inning scoring Steven Rose and Devon Myers. In the fifth, Paul Trenhaile reached on an error, moved up on a wild pitch and went to third on a Weston Lewis single.

Trenhaile would touch the plate when Zak Larkin hit into a double-play.

The Tigers scored all of their runs on one swing by Ryan Busboom.

The reigning MIAA player of the week launched his 12th home run of the season in the sixth.

Siegler allowed a one-out single in the seventh before striking out and retiring the number nine hitter on a comebacker for the win.

Fort Hays 11, Truman 3
 
The Tigers jumped on starter Bret Gerstner early for five runs in the first three innings then took advantage of some Bulldog errors late to snap the five-game winning streak 11-3.

Ryan Busboom hit his conference leading 12th home run, a three-run shot in the bottom of the first and added a sac fly in the third to stake the Tigers to the 5-0 lead. 

 The Bulldogs got on the board as Pete Jurich doubled in Steven Rose in the fourth and Truman climbed to within two in the seventh Jarod Hahn and Blake Marino scored on a double-play and error.

However, the Tigers aided by a pair of Bulldog errors in the inning, batted around in their half of the seventh as four runs crossed the plate. 

A home run by Nash Smith and a sac fly by Busboom ended the scoring in the eighth. Jurich collected three hits in game two.
