(AP) -- Right fielder Nelson Cruz left the Texas Rangers' 7-6 victory over the Kansas City Royals with a bruised right hand.

Cruz was hit by a pitch from Luke Hochevar in the third inning Wednesday night.

The 2011 ALCS MVP hit 29 homers last year but was sidelined for 29 games because of a strained left hamstring and strained right quadriceps muscle.

Lorenzo Cain and Billy Butler each hit a two-run homer for Kansas City.

Eric Hosmer went 3 for 4, raising his average to .397, and drove in his Cactus League-leading 23rd run.

Cain connected against Derek Holland with two out in the first. Butler went deep in the third.

Hochevar gave up four runs and eight hits in five innings.

Minor leaguer Matt Kata doubled home the winning run in the 10th inning.
