Brian Elliott sharp in goal for Blues

(AP) -- Brian Elliott made 20 saves for his eighth shutout and St. Louis' franchise-record 14th of the season in the NHL-leading Blues' 4-0 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Sunday night.

Elliott extended his shutout streak to 127:38, and tied the


Rangers' Henrik Lundqvist and the Kings' Jonathan Quick for the NHL lead in shutouts. Elliott and Jaroslav Halak have combined for 14 shutouts to break the team mark of 13 set by Glenn Hall and Jacques Plante in 1968-69.


Alex Pietrangelo and David Backes scored each scored power-play goals, and Patrik Berglund and Ryan Reaves connected at even strength to help the Blues increase their points total to 103, two more than the Rangers.

The Coyotes remained seventh in the Western Conference with 87 points, one point ahead of Los Angeles, San Jose and Colorado.
