(AP) -- Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says Tim Tebow was treated "shabbily" by the Denver Broncos when they traded him to the New York Jets for Peyton Manning.

Robertson also said that if Manning suffered a recurrence of the neck injury that sidelined him for a full season, Denver would be without a quarterback and "it would serve them right."

A spokesman for Robertson said Friday the outspoken evangelical Christian was "in no way advocating an injury" to Manning and said he has the highest regard for him.

The 81-year-old Robertson made his comments Thursday on "The 700 Club."

The program is broadcast by Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network in Virginia Beach.

Robertson had high praise for Tebow, saying Denver was a "nothing team" until Tebow led them into the playoffs last season.
