John Calhoun had four of the five RBIs in Washburn’s 5-2 win in game one today while Bret Gerstner threw a complete-game shutout for the Bulldogs in a 3-0 win in the nightcap as Truman split the middle two games of their weekend series with the Ichabods.
Truman had three, two-out RBI hits in game two.
Redshirt freshman Bret Gerstner (1-1) tossed his first complete-game shutout as he allowed just two hits while getting two big double plays and a pickoff in the Bulldogs first league win of the season.
Paul Trenhaile put Truman on the board with a two-out RBI single in the third.
Will Nader had a two-out RBI base hit in the next inning that scored Jarod Hahn and Daniel Jewett delievered a two-out RBI single to right to score Trenhaile in the fifth.
Gerstner got an inning ending double-play in the first and following a pair of walks in the sixth, got John Calhoun, Washburn’s hottest hitter, to ground into the 4-6-3 twin killing to end the frame.
John Calhoun drove in four of the five Washburn runs in the first two innings as the Ichabods took game two by a 5-2 tally.
Calhoun went the opposite way in the top of the first for a solo shot and took that same route in the second with a three-run blast.
Brad Alberts was a perfect 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and drove in the other run. Kerry Schachemeyer (2-0) pitched six innings and AJ Green collected the save while Logan Siegler went the distance for Truman striking out seven but allowing 11 hits.
Truman’s two runs came via sac flies as Daniel Jewett drove in Steven Rose in the first and Blake Marino brought in Jarod Hahn in the fourth.
