Truman State University head women’s soccer coach Mike Cannon has announced five signees for the upcoming 2012 season. All five players will enter the program as true freshmen with experience in a variety of positions.

Jade Shinn
(Francis Howell North/Kolping Kicks); 5-foot-7; Defender (St. Charles, Mo.)

Cannon’s comments: “Jade is a tough tackler and excels in the air.

She can play anywhere along the back line and possibly can help in the defensive midfield area as well.

Her communication and passing will be a welcome addition on the defensive end.”

Megan Frkovic (Francis Howell North/JB Marine); 5-foot-4; Defender/Midfielder (St. Charles, Mo.)

Cannon’s comments: “Megan is a skilled and creative left-footed player and can play outside back or wing midfield but might also see time in the central midfield area.

She is a fantastic passer and can strike and serve the ball extremely well, particularly on her left foot.”

Alexis Heffernan

(Ankeny/Iowa Rush); 5-foot-5; Defender/Midfielder (Ankeny, Iowa)

Cannon’s comments: “Alexis is a skilled wing player who can play either in the back or in the midfield with good vision and excellent passing ability. She can dribble out of trouble and get the counter attack started with a smart pass.”

Sara Bommarito

(Oakville/JB Marine); 5-foot-2; Midfielder (St. Louis, Mo.)
Cannon’s comments: “Sara is a tenacious ball-winner with good passing ability and can play anywhere in the midfield and possibly as an outside back looking to get forward.

Her tackling and work rate are impressive.”

Molly White

(Lafayette/St. Louis Scott Gallagher); 5-foot-6; Midfielder/Forward (Wildwood, Mo.)

Cannon’s comments: “Molly is a clever, skillful attacking player with good size and speed. She can beat defenders off the dribble and also excels at finding the right pass. She can play up top or on the wing as well.”

Cannon: “We are very excited about adding these five outstanding student-athletes to the team this fall. We were focused on this recruiting class to add young ladies to compete immediately with our returning core players for playing time and starting positions.

They will all have an impact on and off the field this year and in the future for our program.”

The Bulldog women’s soccer program is coming off an 11-6-2 season and will open the 2012 campaign with a pair of home matches on Friday, Aug. 31 an Sunday, Sept. 2 against Minnesota State and Winona (Minn.) State.
