The Washburn men’s basketball team used a 14-4 start to the second half to clear any Truman momentum built by a halftime buzzer-beater and go on to hand the Bulldogs a 66-45 defeat in Pershing Arena on Wednesday night.

Isaac Gardner scored 14 points off the bench to lead a Bulldog (6-15, 4-10 MIAA) squad that shot just 31.5% (17-for-54) on the night, including an 8-for-26 mark from three-point range.

After slicing a ten point WU (13-6, 9-4 MIAA) first-half lead to just three at the break, the Bulldogs came out cold by missing their first two shots and turning it over three times in the first four minutes to allow the Ichabods to build a ten-point cushion again.

The Washburn lead would grow as large as 22 points, 62-40, with 6:16 to play as Truman took went 0-for-2 from the line in the second half to Washburn’s 14-for-16 mark and 43% shooting overall.

Gardner’s 14 led all Truman players and tied for the game-high, while both Seth Jackson  and Andrew Vander Zwaag  added eight. Vesko Filchev pulled in a team-best seven rebounds, though Truman was out-rebounded 42-29 on the night.
