(TRUMAN STATE)--Propelled by a 14-0 run early in the second half, the Truman women’s basketball team dominated Missouri Southern in a 72-53 victory on Saturday afternoon. Junior guard Becka McHenry led the ‘Dogs, nearly having a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds.

After going scoreless in the first three possessions to open the second half, Jennifer Conway (Waterloo, Ill., Waterloo) started the Truman scoring, followed by Bianca Szafarowicz (Wheeling, Ill., Wheeling) drawing a shooting foul. From there, McHenry’s basket at 16:54 ignited the Bulldog run to put the game out of reach.

On the defensive end, Truman held Missouri Southern (6-11, 2-9 MIAA) without a point for just under six minutes while expanding the lead to 51-30.

Truman (10-6, 5-6 MIAA) started the game hot, jumping out to a 15-4 lead in the first five minutes of the half. Southern crawled their way back, as long-range shooting woes plagued the ‘Dogs with nine straight misses from the three point arc. Allie Norton’s three-pointer with 1:50 left in the half broke the drought and gave the Bulldogs an eight point lead that they extended to ten with McHenry’s pull up jumper at the buzzer.

McHenrys (Fraser, Mich., Fraser) 18 points led all players on the court, with two other Bulldogs notching double-digit points. Norton (Bloomington, Ill., Central Catholic) added 11 and Breanna Daniels (Ridgedale, Mo., Hollister) added 16 as she surpassed 1,100 points for her career. Daniels was also just shy of a double-double, grabbing nine total rebounds.

The Bulldogs outrebounded Missouri Southern 45-29 in the contest. Truman had grabbed 12 offensive boards that resulted in 10 second chance points.

Erin Rice led the Lions with 14 total points and six rebounds. She was only 3-12 from the field with most of her scoring damage occurring at the line, going 7-of-10.

The Bulldogs will hit the road for their next contest against nationally-ranked Pittsburg State (Kan.) on Wednesday evening. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
