(AP) -- The Kansas City Royals aren't tempering their expectations for this coming season.
Good thing, too, because neither are fans who follow the team.
After watching a phalanx of young players make their major league debuts last season, the Royals are positioned for the first time in years to compete for the AL Central title.
First baseman Eric Hosmer and third baseman Mike Moustakas joined Alcides Escobar at shortstop and Johnny Giavotella at second base to form one of the youngest infields in baseball.
And with the acquisition of Jonathan Sanchez from the Giants, the beleaguered pitching staff is vastly improved.
Hosmer said during the team's annual awards luncheon Wednesday that there is legitimate proof that better days are still ahead.
