Jerod Simek has broken his own two school records and five Bulldog women have swum NCAA “B” cut times in individual events as day two was completed at the Phoenix Fall Classic hosted by the University of Chicago. The Bulldog women are in second place while the men third heading into Sunday’s finale.Simek swam 15:43.28 on Friday to break his own record in the 1650 Free while establishing an NCAA “B” cut time in the event. On Saturday, he took first again with a school record, this time with a mark of 4:32.05 in the 500 freestyle race. That time is also a B cut.
On the women’s side, Allison Harding notched the first qualifying time in the 1650 by swimming 17:49.04 to place third on Friday plus the 400 medley relay team of Jessica Jenkot, Abby Hempen, Beth Eyanson and Casey Jepsen took first and broke a B mark of 3:54.20.
Taylor Birsa and Hempen both claimed B marks with a second and third place finish in the 200 IM. Jepsen placed third in the 500 free in a B time of 5:10.49. Harding picked up her second B time of the classic by winning the consolation final in a time of 5:07.07.
Hempen and Jepsen each placed first in events later on Saturday with Hempen winning the 100 breaststroke and Jepsen the 100 free. Jepsen missed the B time in that event by one-one hundredth of a second.
Through two days, the Truman women have won three of the four contested relay events.
