OTTUMWA, IOWA -- Its back to State for the Ottumwa Golf team.
The Bulldogs qualified after shooting a 311 in Des Moines Tuesday; finishing second behind Dowling Catholic. The team was led by Christian Archer who sunk a 50 foot birdie in a one hole sudden death playoff to win medalist honors.
They begin state play Friday in Iowa City. It's the 18th state appearance under head coach Mike Cardin; which includes 7 state championships and 4 runner-up finishes.
He believes this team has a lot of depth, led by Archer, senior Erik Thorgaard, and freshman phenom Matthew Walker. Cardin said the biggest strength is the teams chemistry.
"We have superior mental attitudes. We get along well together. We keep a good perspective of our games and make good decisions on the golf course."
