The Bulldog football team takes their first road trip of the 2011 season as they will face their third ranked opponent in four weeks when they visit #20 University of Central Missouri on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in Warrensburg.
The ‘Dogs are 1-2 overall after a heartbreaking 27-26 loss to #15 Pittsburg State last Saturday night.
There were 23 points scored in the final 5:48 of the game with the Bulldogs grabbing a 26-20 lead with 53 seconds left only to watch the Gorillas march down the field and score the winning TD with 16 seconds remaining.
Central Missouri trailed 35-17 in the third quarter and scored 28 of the next 31 points to down Emporia State on the road 45-38.
The Mules’ Jamar Howard set a school record with 230 yards receiving on nine catches and was named the MIAA offensive player of the week.
The two teams are charter members of the MIAA and this will be the 95th overall meeting and 65th consecutive match-up between the Bulldogs and the Mules.
Central has gotten the best of Truman lately winning the last four and nine out of 10, however the Bulldogs still hold a large advantage in the series with 52 wins to 37 losses and five ties.
This is also the first game back in Warrensburg for five members of the Bulldog coaching staff. Head Coach Gregg Nesbitt was the defensive coordinator (2007-09) before becoming the Truman head coach.
Jed Paulsen (Offensive Line), Andy Ball (Defensive Line), Troy Williams (Linebackers) and Kellen Nesbitt (Defensive Coordinator) all served as graduate assistants for the Mules during the 2000s.
Kellen was a four-year letterwinner for UCM.
