A basketball player who planned to be at the University of Hawaii in the fall will be at Indian Hills Community College instead.
Ronnie Stevens has signed a letter-of-intent with IHCC, according to Warriors’ coach Barret Peery, after originally signing with Hawaii in the fall of 2010.
He will work toward an associate’s degree and Division I eligibility at IHCC.
Stevens is a 6-9, 225 pound power forward whom Peery considers a solid defender and low-post player.
“Ronnie has a big body, can score around the rim and I like his ability to block shots,” the coach said. “He is definitely a DI caliber player and we’re excited to have him as a Warrior.”
Stevens averaged double figures in points and rebounds as both a junior and senior at Serra High School in Gardena, California.
He helped lead his team to a 35-2 record and a state high school championship as a junior.
The website calihighsports.com ranked Stevens as the No. 13 prep player in the state of California.
