(AP) -- Sergio Garcia has made it into his 47th consecutive major - just barely.
Garcia, who only last month said he would not try to qualify, earned a spot in the U.S. Open by surviving a seven-man playoff for four spots in Memphis, Tenn.
Another streak is likely to end. Vijay Singh didn't even bother showing up for the 36-hole qualifier in Columbus, just one day after closing with a 65 at the Memorial. Singh has not missed a major since the 1994 U.S. Open, a stretch of 67 majors in a row.
That had been the longest current streak in golf.
On a day of 11 qualifiers across the country, Arnold Palmer's grandson earned his first trip to the U.S. Open.
The U.S. Open starts June 16 at Congressional.
