Truman track competes at conference meet

EMPORIA, KAN. (AP) -- Day two of the MIAA Track & Field Championships saw three second place finishes for the women and four all-conference performances for the men. The women finished fifth overall with 74 points while the men scored 14 points and placed ninth.

Anne Ratermann placed fifth in the finals of the 800 meter run while taking second in the 1500. Ratermann ran 4:40.69 and missed first place by just over a second.

Karen Grauel also finished the meet with two runner-up finishes. After taking second in the 10,000 meters on Saturday, Grauel was the silver medalist in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 18:38.27. Cindy Grauel just missed all-conference honors as she placed ninth.

Jennifer Zweifel finished second in the triple jump while matching an NCAA automatic mark and breaking the school record but a wind-aided 40-08.75 mark was helped by a positive 5.9 wind reading.

Becca Nelson had one of her best finishes in the javelin as she took third with a provisional mark of 141-07 and Shaina Dochterman finished sixth in the finals of the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.56.

On the men’s side, Joey Walls earned two all-conference awards with a fifth place finish in the 800 meter run and a sixth place showing in the 1,500.  Zach Chapman also earned all-MIAA honors with a seventh place finish in the same race.

John Venner was the final Bulldog to score points with a seventh in the 3000 meter steeplechase. Venner completed the race in 10:07.36.

May 8, 2010-The Central Missouri men and Lincoln women pulled away late to win the MIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday at Witten Track/Welch Stadium on the Emporia State University campus. The meet saw a total of 31 automatic qualifying marks, another 132 provisional marks and seven meet records broken.

UCM scored 189 points to defeat Pittsburg State by 44.5 points in the men’s competition.  Lincoln was third with 137 points and Emporia State was fourth with 132 points.

LU totaled 180 points, with 170 of them coming on Sunday, to defeat first day leader Central Missouri who finished with 130.5 points.  Pittsburg State was third with 108 points and Ft. Hays State placed fourth with 82 points.

The men’s high point scorer was Laban Sialo of Central Missouri.  He was a double winner in the 5000m and 10,000m and finished second in the 1500m to lead the Mules to the team championship.  The women’s high point scorer was Judith Riley of Lincoln. She won the 100m, 200m and 100m hurdles to help the Blue Tigers to the team crown. 

The freshman high point for the men was Pittsburg State’s Keenan Soles.  He finished third in both the long and triple jumps, was seventh in the 200m and was a member of the Gorillas’ 400m relay team that placed third.  Erin Alewine from Central Missouri was the women’s freshman high point scorer.  She finished second in the heptathlon, fourth in the high jump, fifth in the 100m hurdles and eighth in the long jump for the Jennies.
