WARRENSBURG, MO. -- The University of Central Missouri swept both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday by scores of 4-0 and 12-2. The Mules and Bulldogs will resume their series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
A first inning single by Luke Crader was the only hit that Central pitcher Danny Potje allowed as he pitched a complete-game shutout over the Bulldogs in the opener. Potje struck out eight Truman hitters while walking one and hitting one for the seven-inning win.
Bulldog starter Kyle Veazy, who became the Truman all-time leader in innings pitched, got out of jams the first two innings before the Mules pushed across an unearned run on a double by Bret Schwarts in the fourth.
After striking out Nick DeBiasse looking to start the fifth, the Mules strung together four straight hits and scored three more times.
Truman committed five errors in the night cap and fell behind by a 5-0 score before an RBI single by Dan Plecki put Truman on the scoreboard for the first time on Saturday. However the Mules would get the run back in the bottom of the inning and tack on three more in the sixth.
Back-to-back singles by Pete Jurich and Steven Rose in the eight led to the ‘Dogs second run on of the game. Jurich came in to score when Kenny Swanson reached on an error by the Central left fielder Luke Schlechte.
Frank Specht ended the game an inning early with a three-run homer to right as the Mules won their 40th game of the season.
Tyler Stefan was tagged with the loss for the Bulldogs.
