The Bulldog Football team has filled their open date left by the departure of the University of Nebraska Omaha in their 2011 schedule.
Truman will face McKendree University (Ill.) on Oct. 1st in Lebanon, Ill. Kickoff will be at 1:30 p.m.
Truman was scheduled to play Nebraska Omaha on that date in Omaha but that school announced in March they were dropping their football program immediately and focusing their attention to moving to Division I.
“Coach (Andy) Ball had some connections at McKendree and both schools had that weekend open so we are grateful to have filled the hole in our schedule,” said Coach Gregg Nesbitt.
“McKendree has been an NAIA playoff team in the past and are in transition to Division II, plus with a large alumni base in the St. Louis metro area, this is a great opportunity for our program.”
McKendree was 9-3 last season and advanced to the second round of the NAIA playoffs before being eliminated by perennial powerhouse University of Sioux Falls (S.D.).
The Bearcats are in transition to Division II and the school had been assigned to Truman in the NCAA mentor program as they make their move.
The game will be played at Leemon Field in Lebanon, Ill., a mere 25 miles from downtown St. Louis.
It will be Truman’s first game in the St. Louis metro area since a 1986 game against Southeast Missouri State played at old Busch Memorial Stadium.
This will be the first-ever meeting between the Bulldogs and Bearcats on the gridiron.
