Nine members of the Truman State University Wrestling team earned all-Academic status while the team as a whole finished second in the nation with a 3.406 grade point average in the annual release by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.
Sophomores Ryan Banning and Colton Schmitz were second team all-Academic selections while seniors Andrew Bader Chad Kurvoski Max Muench juniors Warren Galloway Jordan Powell Thomas Redmon and sophomore Zach Hayes (Maryland Heights, Mo., Parkway North) were honorable mention picks.
The entire list consisted of 160 student-athletes from 37 Division II institutions.
To qualify for the all-Academic team the student-athlete must have a minimum of a 3.00 cumulative grade point average, be in his second full year at the school and be a starter or key reserve.
Truman finished second in the 18th annual team academic championship to the University of Indianapolis. The Bulldogs posted a cumulative GPA of 3.406 to Indianapolis’ 3.419.
It is the sixth straight year Truman has finished either first or second in the academic championships and are coming off a string of four straight team titles from 2007-2010.
Truman, under the director of Coach David Schutter, has won six Academic team championships, the most of any Division II wrestling program.
