Men’s Basketball Coach Jack Schrader is leaving Truman State University following 16 years as the head coach of the Bulldogs.

“We appreciate Jack’s many years of service to the University and his efforts both on and off the court to make our men’s basketball program a source of University and community pride,” said Director of Athletics Jerry Wollmering. “Coach Schrader’s 1998-99 team and their post-season run to the NCAA Division II final four is a highlight of Truman Athletics.”

Schrader finishes his Truman career with a 165-274 overall record and an 85-203 mark in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics conference games. The Bulldogs finished the 2010-11 season with a 7-19 overall mark and 5-17 league record.

In March 1999, Schrader led his team to the program’s first trip to the NCAA Division II Final Four.

The Bulldogs won 15 straight games that season including the conference tournament championship game and regional championship game.

Truman then played a thrilling triple overtime game against St. Rose (N.Y.) College in the Elite Eight winning 106-101 before falling in the semifinals to eventual champion Metro State (Colo.).

That team was honored in 2009 by being inducted into the Truman Athletics Hall of Fame.

Schrader’s Bulldogs qualified for the NCAA tournament following the 2005-06 campaign that went 20-9 but were eliminated in the opening round by the University of Central Missouri in overtime.

Schrader is a two-time MIAA Coach of the Year recipient and was the 1998-99 NABC South Central Regional Coach of the Year.

During his tenure, Schrader has had several all-conference performers including the program’s all-time leading scorer Cory Parker, Academic All-Americans Jason Reinberg and Alex Henderson and conference freshman of the year Grant Agbo.

Off the court, Schrader established the “Bob Carlson Bulldog & Friends” annual golf tournament, named in honor of the former long-time radio voice of Truman athletics, held many summer camps for area basketball youth and was instrumental in the renovations to the new Willard Sims Locker Room in Pershing Arena.

A national search for Schrader’s replacement will begin immediately.
