(AP) -- Top-ranked Lee Westwood failed to get out
of the second round in the Match Play Championship for the 11th
straight time when he lost in 18 holes to Nick Watney.
It was the third straight year the No. 1 seed did not get beyond
the second round.
Watney also beat Westwood in the second round a year ago at Dove
Mountain. He never trailed in the match, the key moment coming on
the 16th hole, when Westwood had two putts from 20 feet to square
it. He knocked his first putt just over 3 feet by the hole, then
missed the par putt.
Watney remained 1 up and they halved the last two holes.
Westwood, who replaced Tiger Woods at No. 1 in the world four
months ago, has yet to finish in the top 10 in four starts this
year.
