Jennifer Conway’s third double-double of the season came in the biggest home game to date as the Truman women’s basketball team downed Fort Hays State 65-53 in Pershing Arena on Thursday night.

Conway scored a career high 17 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to pull the Bulldogs into a sixth place tie in the conference standings.

The Bulldogs (10-10 overall; 8-8 MIAA) dominated the glass as they snatched 19 more rebounds than the Tigers and held Fort Hays (11-10 overall, 8-9 MIAA) to just five three-pointers and only two, second chance points.

Fort Hays came into the game averaging eight treys a game but were just 5-of-15 from beyond the arc.

Amy Galey’s second three-pointer of the night with 8:51 to play turned a one-point deficit to a two-point Truman lead that they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

That sparked a 15-3 Bulldog run that included baskets by five different Truman players.

The Tigers got as close as nine before Galey dropped in her third triple out of four attempts which brought the proverbial hammer down on Fort Hays.

Conway's  career night was highlighted with 17 points and nine coming from the free throw stripe out of 10 attempts.

She also added two assists, a steal and a block in 36 minutes of action.

Breanna Daniels also had a career night as she pulled down 10 with three coming on the offensive end to add with her seven points.Becka McHenry  scored 13 points and Nicole Gloor followed with 11.

Crista Bechard led the Tigers with 14 points while the reigning MIAA player of the week, Traci Keyer was limited to just seven points in 18 minutes.

With the win, Truman moves into a tie for sixth place with Missouri Western in the conference standings while the Tigers drop into a tie for eighth with Central Missouri.

Those two teams will meet on Saturday while the Bulldogs will host Nebraska-Omaha (6-15 overall, 3-14 MIAA).

Saturday’s game will be Truman’s annual “Think Pink” game as the Bulldogs will join countless other college basketball team in raising awareness for the fight against breast cancer. Tip off is slated for 1:00 p.m.
