NSISC Day 2 Results
Freshman Casey Jepsen broke the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference record in the 500 free as the Truman women took over the top spot after day two of the conference swim meet in Cleveland, Miss.
Jepsen broke former Bulldog Diana Betsworth’s 2006 record of 5:00.28 by swimming 4:59.57 to take first place in the event.
She is just the fifth women’s swimmer this season in Division II to break the five minute barrier in the 500.
Julia Jones and Allison Harding placed seventh and eighth respectively while Stephanie Myers won the B-Final in a time of 5:11.81, an NCAA B-cut mark.
Three of the eight swimmers in the 200IM were from Truman as Taylor Birsa, Stacey Wymer and Claire Myers finished fifth, sixth and seventh and Margaux Kent took the B-Final in 2:10.05.
Jessica Jenkot placed seventh in the 50 free and Bailey Peterson won the B-Final, coming in ninth overall.
Both women’s relay events contested saw the Bulldogs finish second. Jepsen, Tanya Sylvester, Peterson and Jessica Jenkot touched in 1:37.81 in the 200 free relay while Wymer, Emily Buss, Sylvester and Jenkot finished in 3:52.97 in the 400 medley relay.
Jerod Simek swam a season-best time in the men’s 500 free as he touched the wall in 4:32.52 and finished in second place.
Brian Tillis also produced a season-best time in the event with a 4:42.74 pace and finished sixth. Eric Mikolajczyk took the B-Final in a time of 4:41.34.
Matthew Fletcher shaved two seconds off his time in the 200IM as he placed fifth in 1:54.56.
Fletcher swam the lead-off leg of the 400 medley relay team that placed fourth in a time of 3:30.48.
Fletcher was joined on the squad by Tony Hernandez, Mikolajczyk and Taylor Frymire.
The men sit in fifth place with 202 points and trail leader Missouri S&T by 129.
