Northern Iowa edges Missouri State 60-59

SPRINGFIELD, MO. (AP) -- Johnny Moran made two free throws with 5 seconds remaining Sunday night and Northern Iowa defeated Missouri State 60-59.

Anthony James scored 17 points to lead the Panthers (17-6, 8-3 Missouri Valley), who have won seven straight.

Kyle Weems led Missouri State with 18 points. He scored with 22 seconds to play to put the Bears ahead 59-58. But Weems was whistled for a foul on Moran, who made the free throws for Northern Iowa.

Missouri State (17-5, 9-2) fell into a tie for first place in the MVC with Wichita State, with Northern Iowa one game behind. The loss ended the Bears' 19-game winning streak at home.

Lucas O'Rear had 11 points and nine rebounds for Northern Iowa. Kwadzo Ahelegbe also scored 11 points and Jake Koch had 10 points for the Panthers. Jermaine Mallett had 11 and Will Creekmore 10 for the Bears.
