SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Tiger Woods started a new year with his worst season debut.

Woods finished a forgettable week at the Farmers Insurance Open on Sunday by closing with a 3-over 75, ending his five-tournament winning streak at Torrey Pines and finishing in the middle of the pack.

He has never finished out of the top 10 in stroke play to start a new season. Woods was out of the top 40 as the final round still had a few hours remaining.

Woods says he started the week swinging well and it progressively became worse. He heads back to the practice range next week before going to the Middle East for the Dubai Desert Classic, a tournament where he has won twice and never finished out of the top five.

Woods had never finished worst than 10th at Torrey Pines until Sunday.
