(AP) -- Iowa State freshman center Jordan Railey is suspended for Saturday's Big 12 opener at Nebraska.

The Boone County Sheriff's Office reported that the 18-year-old Railey said he fell asleep, struck a median and road sign and rolled his car into a nearby field around 2:50 a.m. on New Year's Day.

Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard says his staff gathered information about the crash and met with Railey before handing down a two-game suspension.

Coach Fred Hoiberg held Railey out of Monday night's win over Northern Illinois for violating team rules.

Hoiberg says Railey made a poor decision and that the incident is a learning opportunity for him.

Railey is averaging 2.3 points and 2.1 rebounds a game.
