TSU Women's Basketball gets another big road win

The Truman women picked up their fourth straight road victory with a strong defensive performance in a 54-45 victory over Fort Hays State in conference play on Monday night.

Jennifer Conway and Breanna Daniels led the Bulldogs with 10 points apiece.

The Bulldogs (6-4 overall, 4-2 MIAA) led by four at the break and extended their lead to eight in the early going before the Tigers scored seven straight to pull to within one at 35-34 with just over 16 minutes to play.

Freshman Nicole Gloor scored the next five for the Bulldogs but Kara Champlin tied the score at 40 apiece with under13 minutes left. Conway scored followed by a three-pointer by Bianca Szafarowicz and four straight by Daniels to give Truman their largest lead at nine with 7:49 left.

Amy Galey picked up her eighth rebound of the night and hustled down the floor beating everyone down for the fast break and her only points of the night to put Truman up by seven with 4:33 remaining.

The Tigers would not score over the final 5:03 of the game.

Fort Hays came in averaging a league-leading seven three-pointers made per game but were successful just three out of 16 attempts (18.8%), overall the Tigers were ice cold from the field as they had 12 made field goals and shot 22% from the floor. The Tigers stayed in the game by going 18-of-23 from the foul line.

Truman shot 41.5% from the floor making just one three-point attempt out of five tries. 

The Bulldogs outrebounded the Tigers 41-38. The 45 points allowed was a season-low for the Bulldogs and lowered their defensive scoring averaging in the conference to a MIAA leading 54.2 points per game.

Truman will continue the road trip at the University of Nebraska-Omaha on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. The Mavericks are 4-6 overall and 1-5 in the conference.
