(AP) -- The DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge
will soon open for ice fishing but new rules will be in effect.
Ice fishing will be allowed starting Sunday and continuing
through February, although fishing will be suspended Jan. 8-9 for a
deer hunt on the 8,358-acre refuge that straddles the Missouri
River in Iowa and Nebraska. Anglers are urged to test the ice
before heading out on the water. At least four inches of clear blue
ice is recommended.
A release from the refuge says there is a new daily bag limit of
15 for crappie and bluegill on DeSoto Lake for 2011, and anglers
are limited to two lines.
