Truman State University volleyball middle blocker Megan Sharpe was named to the AVCA all-American third-team marking the sophomore’s second straight season on the all-American squad following honorable mention status last year. In addition, senior Allison Barker picked up second-team Daktronics all-region accolades for her play as an outside hitter.
Sharpe a 5-foot-11 middle blocker, becomes the sixth player in program history and the first sophomore to be named all-American multiple times after leading the Bulldogs with a .321 hitting percentage and adding 2.53 kills per set.
She also led the Bulldogs with 115 total blocks and helped the Bulldogs reach the NCAA tournament for the 12th time in school history in 2010. Truman finished the year with a 25-8 record and was third in the MIAA.
She joins Jessica Sears (2003, 2004), Sarah Shearman (2004, 2005, 2006), Kelsey Wackerman (2005, 2006), Allie Cherven (2006, 2007, 2008) and Melissa Keck (2007, 2008) as the program’s multiple-time honorees on the AVCA all-American lists.
Barker a 5-foot-10 outside hitter, was named second-team all-district by Daktronics after leading the squad with 335 total kills (2.75/set) and adding 429 total digs (3.52/set).
She is the first Bulldog named to the Daktronics South Central squad since 2008 and first Truman outside hitter since 2006.
Voting for the regional Daktronics team is conducted by Sports Information Directors at NCAA Div. II institutions located throughout the MIAA, Lone Star and Heartland conferences.
