IOWA CITY, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa sophomore point guard Cully Payne will be out for six to eight weeks with a hernia.
Hawkeyes coach Fran McCaffery announced Payne's injury during his pre-game radio show Friday.
Payne will have surgery on Tuesday.
Payne has been Iowa's starting point guard since the start of last season. He's struggled this season, though, averaging just 3.8 points per game on 28.6 percent shooting from the field.
Payne played just 13 scoreless minutes in a 78-72 loss to Long Beach State on Monday.
Junior Bryce Cartwright will likely start in place of Payne.
