IOWA CITY, IOWA (AP) -- Bids from two Iowa communities have been submitted to host the 2012 United States Olympic Wrestling Team Trials in April 2012.
The University of Iowa and Iowa City-Coralville Area Convention and Visitors Bureau are seeking to bring the trials to Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
The Council Bluffs Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Council Bluffs Olympic Trials Committee want the event to be held
at Mid-America Center.
The Gazette in Cedar Rapids reports that the trials will determine the Olympic team that competes in the 2012 games in London.
Among the events will be men's freestyle, Greco-Roman and women's freestyle. The event also will include weightlifting team
trials.
The Iowa cities are competing against Oklahoma City; Columbus, Ohio; Greensboro, N.C.; Hampton, Va.; and Pontiac, Mich.
Organizers are expected to make a decision by Jan. 17.
