OMAHA, NEB. -- Freshman Devon Fenstemaker recorded a team-high five victories and advanced deep in the 157-pound amateur bracket as the Truman Wrestling team competed in the University of Nebraska-Omaha Open on Saturday.

Fenstermaker (Barnhart, Mo., Seckman) lost his opening match 19-4 but bounced back to reel off five straight wins in the wrestleback.  Fenstemaker had his day end late on Saturday night following a 3-1 overtime loss to Iowa State’s Joe Cozart to finish 5-2 for the tournament.

Sophomores Colton Schmitz and Ryan Banning along with freshman Ryan Maus all finished with 3-2 records in their respective amateur brackets.

Schmitz (Kirksville, Mo., Kirksville) won his first two matches at 149 before a 9-2 decision sent him to wrestlebacks. Schmitz took a 19-1 tech fall victory in his next match before being eliminated by a 3-2 decision.

Banning (Wildwood, Mo., Eureka) started his day off with a pinfall victory before being pinned himself in his next match in the 125-pound bracket.  Banning won 17-2 and 5-2 before having his day end with an early fall loss.

Maus (Kennesaw, Ga., Kennesaw Mt.) won his opening bout 9-1 but lost a tight 3-2 decision in the second round.  The newcomer then recorded two start fall victories in the 141 wrestlebacks before dropping 6-4 in his final match of the day.

Andy Bader and Chad Kurovski were among several Bulldogs to compete in the Elite bracket for juniors and seniors.

Bader (St. Louis, Mo., Vianney) won his opening match 5-4 in the 165 pound weight class but finished his day at 2-2 while Kurvoski (Ankeny, Iowa, Ankeny) followed the same path in the 174 pound bracket.

The Bulldogs will next be in action on Dec. 12th when they compete in the Newman University Invitational in Wichita, Kan.
