Iowa wipes out early deficit to beat Alabama 55-47

ST. THOMAS, VIRGIN ISLANDS (AP) -- Zach McCabe scored 13 points and Eric May 12 as Iowa came back from an early 10-point deficit to defeat Alabama 55-47 on Saturday night in a consolation round game at the Paradise Jam.

The Hawkeyes (2-2) trailed 11-1 after just 5:33 had elapsed before rallying. A 3-pointer by May gave Iowa its first lead, 18-16, with 5:04 left in the half.

The game was tied five times in the half's final 5 minutes before Jordan Stoermer's two free throws gave Iowa a 29-27 lead
with 2 seconds left.

After a tying basket at the start of the second half by JaMychal Green, who led the Crimson Tide (2-2) with 17 points, Iowa regained the lead and never relinquished it.

McCabe scored four points during an 11-2 run that widened Iowa's lead to 49-39 with 6:19 remaining.

Iowa will face Long Beach State on Monday in its next game at the tournament, while Alabama will play Saint Peter's.
