Truman State University sophomore Megan Sharpe was named the MIAA Volleyball Hitter of the Week on Monday afternoon for her efforts from Oct. 25-31.
Sharpe picked up her second MIAA Athlete of the Week award of the season after averaging 3.00 kills and 0.91 blocks per set, while also hitting .403, for the Bulldogs last week.
Sharpe hit better than .300 in all three matches and registered ten or more kills in every match last week to raise her career total to 37 in just two seasons.
She opened the week with ten kills and a team-high four blocks at Southwest Baptist before putting down 13 kills and adding three blocks against Missouri Southern.
She then closed the week with a ten-kill, 15-attempt (.667) effort against Pittsburg State on Saturday. In the match, she set a new career-high with six digs and added three bloc
For the season, she is hitting .323 and is averaging 2.60 kills per set. Last season’s National Freshman of the Year, Sharpe is also the team’s block leader in 2010 with 99.
Sharpe’s honor on Monday marks the fourth time a Bulldog has been named Athlete of the Week this season, after junior Molly Sinclair (week one) and senior Allison Barker (week four) surrounded Sharpe’s week three selection.
The Bulldogs are 23-5 overall, 12-4 in the MIAA, and are ranked No. 16 in the AVCA top-25 coaches poll. Truman hosts No. 8 Central Missouri on Wednesday night in Pershing Arena at 7 p.m.
