The 2010 Smith & Wesson USPSA National Handgun Championships will bring together the very best shooters from across America, and around the world, in a quest for the coveted title of National Champion in the dynamic “run-and-gun” sport of practical shooting.
Among the more than 580 shooters making the trek to Las Vegas to compete in the championships will be local top gun Emanuel Bragg of Kirksville.
In all, 45 states and six foreign nations will be represented at the matches which are run by the U.S. Practical Shooting Association and being held October 9-16 at the Desert Sportsman’s Rifle & Pistol Club.
During competition shooters will face 18 stages – or courses of fire – that are designed to test the competitors’ speed and accuracy using multiple targets, including moving targets that swing, bob and appear briefly before quickly disappearing again.
An estimated 250,000 rounds of ammunition will be put down range at the event.
The Smith & Wesson USPSA National Handgun Championships consist of two major events. The first is the Open and Limited-10 division competition followed by the Limited, Production and Revolver division contest.
Divisions are based on the different types of firearm used in each. The Production Division features commonly available stock or “duty guns” with only limited changes permitted to the firearm, while the Open Division utilizes fully customized pistols featuring recoil reducing compensators and optical sighting systems.
