WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. VA. (AP) -- Stuart Appleby was able to win the inaugural Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia by becoming only the fifth player in PGA history to fire a 59.
Appleby eagled the par-5 12th hole before closing with three birdies to win the tournament at 22-under, one shot ahead of third-round leader Jeff Overton. Appleby is the first player to fire a 59 on a par-70 course.
The record-tying round comes less than a month after Paul Goydos fired a 59 at the John Deere Classic.
