AMES, IOWA (AP) -- Iowa State coach Fred Hoiberg says the Cyclones have signed Penn State transfer Chris Babb.

Babb is a guard who averaged 9.3 points a game for the Nittany Lions last season.

Babb will sit out next season per NCAA transfer rules and be a redshirt junior for Iowa State in 2011-12.

Babb is a native of Arlington, Texas. He shot 37.3 percent from 3-point range last season at Penn State, which finished 11-20.

Hoiberg says in a statement that Babb is an "unbelievable" shooter with the ability to handle the physical play of the Big 12.

Iowa State lost guards Chris Colvin and Dominique Buckley to transfers this spring, and starting point guard Diante Garrett will be a senior next season.
