FRISCO, TEXAS (AP) -- The Kansas City Royals have placed right-hander Gil Meche and infielders Alex Gordon and Josh Fields on the disabled list and assigned seven players to minor league camp.
Saturday's moves after Kansas City's final spring training game mean the Royals just need to trim one more player to get to their opening-day 25-man roster by Monday.
Manager Trey Hillman said relievers John Parrish, Anthony Lerew and Dusty Hughes are in the mix for two bullpen spots. That
decision will be made Sunday.
The DL moves were expected. Meche (right shoulder stiffness) and Gordon (broken right thumb) were retroactive to March 26, making them eligible for reinstatement next Saturday. The move for Fields (right hip flexor) was retroactive to March 28 and he can return April 12.
